After the release of the podcast Serial and an HBO documentary, The Case Against Adnan Syed, a lot of people have been refocused on Adnan’s case, and it raised a controversial question, “Is Adnan guilty or innocent?”

Trailer of The case against Adnan Syed

In my opinion, I believe Adnan is innocent and he is falsely convicted during the case. Although the state’s evidence shows, Adnan’s cell record, and Jay Wild’s testimony support Adnan’s guilt, there are some doubtful points to these evidence.

Is Jay’s Testimony Reliable?

First of all, the state’s argument stated that the two incoming calls that Adnan received about 7 pm were detected around the area where the victim’s body was found (Chaudry, 2916). But according to the statement by Susan Simpson, who is the host of the podcast, Undisclosed, any incoming call record is not reliable information for showing the location of the phone. Also, the second question is the credibility of Adnan’s testimony. Every time he testifies as Adnan’s alibi, his words kept changing. The story he testified to the police was different than the story he told at the trial and in the most recent interview.

Moreover, his testimony does not match with the presumed (estimated) time of the victim’s death. Lee was killed between 2:15 pm and 3:30 pm, which is the time when she has left her school and the time she picks her cousin up from elementary school. But according to another witness, Asian McClain, Adnan was at the public library until 2:40 pm, and after he attended to track practice at 3:30 pm (Chaudry 2016). There is also an eyewitness who saw him at the track practice, which can possibly prove that Jay’s testimony does not fit the time frame, therefore proves Adnan’s innocence.

The Autopsy Report

The autopsy report also supports Jay’s false testimony and Adnan’s innocence. The medical examiner and forensic pathologists’ reports explained that Lee’s body showed fixed frontal lividity and “Such lividity could only be present if, after being killed Lee was left in a face-down position, stretched out, for 8 to 10 hours” (Chaudry 2016). But when she was buried her body was found twisted on her right side, which explains her body was buried after the lividity permanently fixed. According to Jay’s testimony, Adnan and Jay buried her around 7 pm, which is not enough time for the lividity to fix in frontal position.

Another Suspect, Ronald Lee Moore

Adnan Syed was not the only suspect of Lee’s death. There was another possible suspect, Ronald Lee Moore. He released from prison 10 days before Lee’s disappearance. Moore was convicted for murdering a 27-year-old Korean woman, Annelise Hyang Suck Lee. The way Ronald Lee Moore murdered the woman was the same cause for Hae Min Lee’s death. Since Moore committed suicide in prison in 2008, the forensic pathologists had to use the evidence from the Lee case to match with DNA detected at here’s car. Even though his DNA did not match, I think there might have been evidence that matches Moore, if there was a further examination on Hae’s body.

Overall, I believe that Adnan Syed is innocent by looking at all the evidence that proves his innocence. Also, the U.S. supreme court should consider the appeal of his conviction (Access to more information about this case, click here).

5 Ways to Curate Content on Your Blog

In my opinion writing a blog post is one of the best ways to deliver my message/opinion about any topic. For podcasts, I agree that the background music or the sound effects and the tone of the narrator could help the audience to enhance their understanding. However, since the podcast delivers its content through an audio file, it lacks and visual contents. But for blogs, I can use multimedia of my choice like images or videos so that the readers can get a better understanding of my content. Also, I can put hypertext that will allow the readers to access various sources related to this case or any other of my contents.
